The Story
CruzHim emerged from a personal discovery. I had long applied cologne to my armpits, drawn to the way fragrance would settle into my natural musk and evolve against warm skin. But conventional colognes presented two problems: the alcohol irritated my skin, and the synthetic compositions were so dominant that my own chemistry took hours to surface. I wanted something formulated specifically for that purpose, an oil-based fragrance designed not to compete with the body, but to move with it.
After several months of development, the Leather & Sweat formula launched in October 2024. Every bottle is produced by hand in small batches in my home lab, using scent materials sourced primarily within the United States. The formulation draws on both classical perfumery staples and rare materials, among them Civettone, a sophisticated musk compound long prized in fine fragrance for its depth and animalic warmth.
Central to the formula is Androstenone, a naturally occurring compound present in human sweat that is produced in significantly higher concentrations in men. Unlike the pheromone systems found in insects or animals, where chemical signals produce immediate and predictable behavioral responses, human chemosignaling is subtler and more complex. Research suggests that Androstenone may influence the perception of masculinity, social dominance, and attractiveness, with notable effects observed among men who are attracted to other men. The science is still evolving, but the signal is there.
What distinguishes CruzHim is what unfolds after application. The oil base delivers the fragrance, leather, musk, vetiver, patchouli, cocoa, and Boisiris, but body heat and individual skin chemistry determine where it goes from there. No two men smell the same wearing it. CruzHim doesn't obscure who you are. It refines it.
